Most Important Point:
You never see 21-year-old national leaders or CEOs because age correlates with maturity, credibility, and impulse control, not just appearance or aesthetics.

Supportive Reasoning:
Leadership roles—like presidents or CEOs—require decision-making under complexity, ethical scrutiny, and long-term accountability. These traits develop over time through failure, observation, and emotional regulation (per Kohlberg’s moral development stages and the neurobiology of delayed gratification). Youth may have raw intelligence but lack experienced judgment.

Even in image-focused industries (e.g., advertising, entertainment), leadership is entrusted to older individuals because success demands reputational resilience, negotiation finesse, and impulse restraint—all of which take years to cultivate.

Counter-Argument:
Age alone doesn’t guarantee competence or ethics—many aged leaders have been corrupt, negligent, or despotic. Some young founders (e.g., Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs) have proven capable, showing that certain environments (startups, arts) reward precociousness when paired with mentoring and structure.

The “ugly people shouldn’t be employed” analogy (referencing discriminatory logic in certain ad agencies) is a false equivalence—appearance discrimination is shallow and unrelated to leadership capacity, while valuing age for leadership is empirically rooted in cognitive and behavioral maturity.

Perspective Angles:
1. Creativity Angle:
While youth drives bold experimentation, mature leaders are more adept at filtering which wild ideas are worth institutionalizing. Creativity needs scaffolding—older leaders can recognize patterns and selectively nurture radical input.
2. Criminal / Legal Angle:
Laws across nations set minimum ages for candidacy in high office. These aren’t arbitrary—they’re based on actuarial risk and historical precedent: young leaders are statistically more volatile, more easily manipulated, and more likely to misjudge high-stakes decisions.
3. Personal Finance Angle:
Older leaders usually have stable financial backgrounds, making them less vulnerable to bribery, extortion, or rash investments that harm institutional trust.
4. Relationship Impact Angle:
Interpersonal diplomacy, emotional intelligence, and non-reactivity in negotiations increase with age. Mature leaders are often better at maintaining coalitions and managing both internal and external relational dynamics.

Thought-Provoking Question:
If society instinctively trusts older leaders for wisdom and restraint, how can we systematically extract the best of youthful risk-taking without placing immature individuals in roles that could cause systemic failure?

@Jianfa88Tsai April 15, 2025 - 8:07 pm

Most Important Point:
The true long-term corporate asset of mature workers lies in impulse control and low risk of reputational or criminal damage, not merely skill, intelligence, or wisdom.

Supportive Reasoning:
Longitudinal data across cultures and centuries—including prison demographics, corporate scandals, and political collapses—suggests a disproportionate share of destructive behaviors (fraud, bribery, adultery, aggression) originate from impulsivity, typically peaking in youth. Mature workers, having experienced social consequences and developed prefrontal inhibition, statistically exhibit lower risk-taking behavior and are less susceptible to scandals, making them institutional stabilizers.
This is evident in criminology (Gottfredson & Hirschi’s General Theory of Crime), organizational psychology (Mischel’s Delay of Gratification studies), and political history (fall of Nixon, Berlusconi, or Bo Xilai—less technical failure, more ethical collapse).

Counter-Argument:
Not all older workers are paragons of self-control. Some may become rigid, risk-averse, or entrenched in outdated mental models. Additionally, youth can offer ethical clarity uninfluenced by cynicism or vested interest. Not all impulsivity is harmful—some innovation demands it. A blind preference for “old is gold” may risk ageism and suppress necessary change.

Perspective Angles:
1. Creativity Angle:
Impulse, if well-guided, drives artistic brilliance and innovation (e.g., startups). Mature workers must balance restraint with openness to new, chaotic, “immature” ideas—diversity of thought includes temperaments.
2. Criminal / Legal / Safety Angle:
Corporate governance frameworks increasingly rely on background checks and behavioral profiling not just for skills, but risk prediction. Mature employees statistically present lower compliance risk, making them safer choices for roles tied to fiduciary responsibility or public relations.
3. Personal Finance Angle:
Impulse control in older employees correlates with better personal financial habits—less debt, more savings, and lower susceptibility to scams or financial misconduct that could embarrass employers.
4. Relationship Impact Angle:
In both work and life, emotional regulation and loyalty—often stronger in mature individuals—reduce interpersonal conflicts, sexual harassment cases, and intra-team distrust, creating long-term relational capital within organizations.

Thought-Provoking Question:
If impulse control is so pivotal to leadership, should organizations prioritize psychological maturity assessments over technical interviews in hiring for high-trust roles—and could that backfire by filtering out necessary disruptors?

@Jianfa88Tsai April 15, 2025 - 8:07 pm

Checkmate point: you don’t see president of a nation, prime minister or corporate CEOs who are 21 year olds? Should we fire all the ministers because they are above 40 years old (Caucasian ad agency logic – ugly peoples shouldn’t be employed)?

@Jianfa88Tsai April 15, 2025 - 8:07 pm

Billion dollar global insight. The big money or pivotal point of mature workers is not skill, intellect or latest knowledge. It’s not even wisdom, although wisdom is an advantage. It’s impulse control and reduced risks of committing crimes against the company management, committing fraud or committing crimes or adultery in personal matters that indirectly harm the company brand image and profits. Humans have been around for more than 5,000 years. The government cream of the crop geniuses that become politicians have their careers ruined or cause wars and disasters not mainly because of technical ineptitude (technical matters are done by their Kias ), many smart and powerful humans are brought down because of their poor values and lack of impulse control (greed, bribery, doing matters that get them blackmailed to harm the company). Let’s look at hard evidence; based on global Caucasian, China Chinese, African and Hispanic male owned nations and prison records for the past 5,000 years, most crimes are committed by young males and some crimes by young females. Think about it logically, if you get incarcerated when you are young, you won’t even get an interview in the first place. There’s reasons why some people can survive to old age. That’s why old is gold. Conversely, there are strengths and weaknesses in all genders and age groups. It takes a discerning eye and proper management culture to be able to embrace diversity.

我自己有公司, 这么多年也应聘了不少人,从中我学习到到, 40,50 岁以上的员工也比年轻的员工,更有责任心. 现在公司员工的平均年龄都是50 以上. Diana不要因为年龄而失去自信心. 加油.

No offends, but I think your husband should be more understanding. What is more important is a healthy child rather than boy or girl.

Actually, I'm in my early forties I also can find jobs and I also have family and I currently have the job she wants.. so I don't understand what she meant by she can't find the job she wants… I think one major problem is she stopped working for a while. As a HR recruiter, a lot of my clients don't accept people who had a gap in their careers.

40 岁就算老了吗?那么我们50岁以上不是更糟? 政府应该检讨并减少就业准证,国人在找工作面对许多困难与挑战。这些压力会影响健康与家庭稳定。

Thanks for your sharing. The root of success is bitter but the fruit of success is sweet. You did it and you are an inspiration to others.
When a woman cannot bear a son is not the woman's fault. Woman has XX chromosomes and the man has XY chromosomes. XX is daughter and XY is son. So the answer is clear.

@freebythesea8750 April 15, 2025 - 8:07 pm
