How can you discuss your marching band in a 16 1/2 minute news segment and never once mention what your show subject and theme are? That would be like a high school producing a film and talking nauseum about the production and the editing, and never once talking about what the film is about. Never once discussing the music inside the show. Never once discussing the visual components, the costumes, the uniforms, the props, and what the plaid symbolizes. There have been tons and tons of documentaries done about drum corps and marching band, and they all focus on the hard work, and the commitment and the camaraderie, and teamwork. But never once is mentioned a specific point of view and artistic statement of the show. Each show has a thematic argument, and that is the primary lesson in the arts. A production has a point of view and a high stake statement to make, unique and emotional. Not just “marching band in general”.
Is this news segment longer than the documentary itself?
How awesome.
I always thought a documentary about an entire marching band season would be fascinating having seen my two kids go through the process during high school.
Well done young man.
