Why is politics still so elitist? What story is Kemi Badenoch trying to sell? And, how can Dutton escape Trump comparisons?

Oof Alastair spinning the 'failed old politics of the past' question into a very black and white 'democracy vs autocracy' question… showing he's still got those comms chops. C'mon man, people are deeply fed up with the status quo, autocracy is just the only thing that is being offered up as an alternative.
Two complete evil people who ignore the people as they think they know better. Sad really
Alastair – beige zip up puts 20 years on you, lose it 😝
I think Alistair is right about the Australian election. The movement in opinion polls has been all one way: towards the Labor Party. In fact, ever since the election was called over four weeks ago, EVERY poll by EVERY pollster (all 8 listed on Wikipedia, at least) has shown a shift towards Labor or no change.
All Tory leaders are finished , the party is branded and liars ! Rightly or wrongly
What crap.
Black is a great colour.
An isa as sponsorship??
if you can afford to stash 20k a year maybe you should be paying tax?
Well you two were finished, lol!
A book I would recommend is It Can't happen Here by Sinclair Lewis very presient
Your advertising is painful
Kemi was brought in as a one before the one, she will never be one PM
She has no appeal whatsoever
36:26 Lol, not "Trumpy Wumpy"… 😂😂😂
29:29 Ahhh yes. This is the simplistic but all too real way that racists think. Colour is not important. it is without doubt the least important thing about a party or person. What a shame colour preferences has cause so much harm throughout modern history. Just a thought. Love to the family.
“The story she’s telling…” …oh Alastair: it’s not 2002 anymore…we’re done with spinners like you spinning a “story”. Go away and write more awful books.
When a political party elect a leader like her, you know they will get nowhere for decades. Then, you look at her predecessors who failed miserably to realise why we have an unethical prime minister. Politics is broken beyond repair
Several economic reform economists about, several actually suggesting stuff that has worked elsewhere.
Most of them that are credible advising things that would be poison to mainstream editorials.
We do not know where the Conservative Party stands on the big issues that matter. She has not put her stamp on this. And given their record in office, “trust us” won’t fly anymore. Reform is asking the Qs that matter and that much of the political class is not. I am not saying that it has all the answers. But at least it is asking the right Qs. No one else is. And this is why it is gaining support.
The Netherlands here. I'm far from informed on the details of British pollitics. That's why I like your easy digest podcast. Just want to add a few thoughts:
About the new generation losing intelligence: Adam Mockler is a 20 year old vlogger ( now part of the MeidasTouchNetwork) who invites Maga people to discussions, while leading their thinking process in more nuanced territory. He gets them to change their mind. He's inventing ways to engage stubborn rightwing people in critical thinking.
I'm looking forward to the JDVance series after watching the hilarious post of 'I've Had It', on how the Chinese troll him for his use of eyelliner. JDVance changed his identity a few times, started as a drag queen. He scares me because of his psychiatrice derangements.
Illiteracy is about 50% in the USA according to a survey announced on the radio, when I was once in LA. Spelling out words is not the same as silently absorbing lines of text and comprehending. That was a jump in our evolution after the printing press was invented. It would be interesting to know the exact number of people, that can not follow politics, because of a limited ability to read texts. It is far more people than you think.
Use the new colour olo.
Badenoch is the useful "id***" the reeling conservatives will keep in place until they are ready to actually seriously seek power again…then they'll replace her. Nothing but a placeholder.
How on earth did a lad from Keighley in the West Riding turn out to be a Burnley fan??? Seriously Mr K, you might as well have gone the whole hog and formed an allegiance to be a Rovers fan.
Back on topic now though, Badenough hasn't been labelled by this name without reason. She really is bad enough. Whilst a part of me wants her to stay – she is the gift that keeps on giving for Labour – I do pine for some effective opposition to get and keep Labour on their toes. Our democracy need a radical government which is willing to push boundaries and an effective opposition that is able to hold the governing party to account. Bad enough simply isn't that person and can't do this. The only party – which isn't up itself – that would stand a chance of effectively opposing Labout is the Lib-Dems.
Actually quite sad but very true.
Dutton is the ghoulish lovechild of Gina Rinehart, Rupert Murdoch & Tony Abbott. All of whom have an EXTREMELY close relationship with Trump. Abbott & Farage are joined at the hip & both fawn over Orban. Dutton is very much an extension of the Trumpian Universe.
He does not have an independent vision for Australia, he's a reactionary whose only tactic is opposing anything proffered by the ALP & only priority is kicking the can down the road dealing with climate change, in service to the world's richest woman, mining magnate Gina Rinehart.
The "Nuclear transition" Dutton is so glued to as a solution, also happened to be the dream of Gina's late father Lang Hancock, using nuclear explosives to access new mining sites. 🤔
It would be great if you could interview former PM Malcolm Turnbull on Leading before the Aus election, he might be in the mood to let rip. Dutton is a piece of work & nobody knows better than Turnbull.
Finished? Not sure she’s ever got started
You want more "characters" but I doubt you'd welcome their values. You only need to look at the treatment of Tim Farron to know that Christians are not welcome in public life.
Everyone is for diversity of thought these days until you disagree with the zeitgeist.
Alastair – Democracy HAS failed. This doesn’t mean get rid of democracy, burn it down, Trump style. But it does mean stop trying to recreate the 90s. It failed us. It means how we run our democracy needs to be radically reformed. I’m sorry to make it personal, but New Labour abandoned the working class to appear friendly to big business to steal Tory votes, and it worked in the short term. Clinton did the same in America. And Farage and Trump is where it has led us. If the only people speaking to the concerns of the masses are the far right, blaming immigrants, foreigners and “woke”, the “true” left as I would call it have been basically wiped out and marginalised by the mainstream party and media machinery, and the “centre left” is more concerned with corporate business interests, believing in the neoliberal trickle down theory, which has totally failed, where do you expect people to turn? They have turned to the only people that have even noticed they existed for the last 30 years. If democracy ignores the masses, which it has, it will fail.
Watching Alastair trying to defend the working class and trade union bona fides of the modern Labour Party is pretty cringe worthy. It was you and your mob that tore that down.
She’s lasted longer than Truss as leader of the tories, so there’s that. Pretty low bar, admittedly.
Rory, please get a stable camera or table for your laptop, the vibration on the youtube version drives me nuts. Content is otherwise imperious.
To finish it is first necessary to start, and I'm not sure she has yet done so or ever will.
I may be mistaken but I’m almost certain we wouldn’t elect her. Yes Sunak’s result was partly vicarious punishment. But I honestly don’t think England will elect a foreign looking person.
please don't shift the goal posts whennit comes to working class representation. It is lower, no matter how you measure it
🇬🇧🤦🏼♂️
If only Campbell and Stewart were finished. Will we never see the back of these two opinionated bores?
“I’m sorry. We don’t do God.”
