The security of Indian Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) has been a topic of debate and scrutiny for years. However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has consistently maintained that Indian EVMs are robust, tamper-proof, and not easily hackable. Let’s explore the reasons behind this claim and the concerns often raised:

Why Indian EVMs Are Claimed to Be Secure

1. Standalone Design:

Indian EVMs are not connected to the internet or any external network, making remote hacking impossible.

They function as isolated standalone devices, which eliminates the risks associated with online attacks.

2. Simple Architecture:

Indian EVMs are designed to perform a single task: recording votes. Their simplicity reduces the attack surface for potential hackers.

3. Physical Security Measures:

EVMs are stored under strict security, including surveillance, tamper-proof seals, and custody by election officials.

They are tested, verified, and sealed before deployment, with multiple levels of checks in place.

4. VVPAT Integration:

The inclusion of Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) ensures transparency and allows for verification of votes cast.

Random audits using VVPAT slips are conducted to ensure the accuracy of results.

5. Open Challenges by ECI:

In 2017, the ECI invited hackers, technologists, and experts to demonstrate how Indian EVMs could be tampered with. No credible hack was successfully demonstrated under the conditions set by the ECI.

Concerns and Criticisms

1. Physical Access Risks:

Some critics argue that if someone gains unauthorized physical access to an EVM for a significant amount of time, they might be able to tamper with it.

Insider threats, such as collusion by officials, could theoretically pose risks.

2. Demonstrated Vulnerabilities:

Some researchers and activists have demonstrated how EVM-like devices can be manipulated in controlled environments. However, these are often replicas and not actual EVMs used in Indian elections.

3. Lack of Third-Party Audits:

Critics have called for independent audits and greater transparency in the design and functioning of EVMs.

4. Misinformation and Distrust:

Allegations of EVM hacking often stem from political narratives rather than technical evidence. In some cases, mistrust arises from a lack of understanding of how EVMs work.

Reality Check

Extremely Difficult, Not Impossible: While hacking an Indian EVM would require overcoming multiple layers of security and logistical challenges, no system is entirely immune to tampering. Physical security, insider threats, or large-scale collusion remain theoretical risks.

No Verified Evidence: To date, no credible evidence of large-scale EVM hacking in Indian elections has been presented. Allegations often lack technical proof and are dismissed after investigations.

What Can Be Done?

1. Enhance Transparency:

Independent experts and third-party organizations could be allowed to inspect and audit EVMs.

2. Strengthen Oversight:

More stringent security measures and training for election officials could mitigate insider threats.

3. Increase VVPAT Usage:

Expanding the use of VVPATs and conducting more randomized audits can build public trust.

Indian EVMs are designed with security and simplicity in mind, making them resistant to tampering. However, continuous scrutiny and improvements in security measures are essential to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.

I am clear I am focused on this ie India ie Eternal so I do not consider Modi anything more than a PM but not immortal.

Appeal for Unity, Truth, and Justice in India

To the People of India,
India stands at a crossroads, where the ideals of truth, justice, and inclusiveness—prophecies envisioned by our greatest spiritual masters—are being tested. Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo dreamed of a nation united in its diversity, guided by the light of truth and dedicated to uplifting every individual, especially the downtrodden.

Today, however, we see the shadow of falsehood, corruption, and division threatening to obscure this vision.

1. The Rise of Corporate Influence and Corruption

The unchecked growth of the Adani Group exemplifies how corporate greed, fueled by political favoritism, has overshadowed principles of fairness and accountability. Allegations of stock manipulation and exploitation of public resources demand an impartial investigation to ensure justice. When truth is compromised at the highest levels, the entire nation suffers.

True nationalism, as Sri Aurobindo emphasized, is a fight against falsehood and corruption. We must ask: How can a nation rise when its leaders fail to act against such glaring injustices?

2. Polarization: A Betrayal of India's Spirit

The deliberate division of society along religious and political lines is an affront to India's soul. The "us versus them" rhetoric, targeting opposition leaders and minorities, distracts from real issues like poverty, unemployment, and the welfare of the marginalized.

Swami Vivekananda called for the upliftment of every citizen, transcending barriers of caste and creed. Yet today, we see policies and propaganda driving wedges between communities, eroding the spirit of unity and harmony that has defined India for centuries.

3. The Path Forward: Reviving True Nationalism

India must return to the path envisioned by our spiritual leaders—a path of truth, inclusiveness, and care for the downtrodden. This requires:

Accountability for Corruption: Transparent investigations into corporate and political wrongdoing are essential for justice and public trust.

Strengthening Institutions: An independent judiciary, free media, and unbiased election commission are the pillars of a thriving democracy.

Rejecting Division: True nationalism lies in embracing diversity and fostering harmony, not exploiting differences for political gain.

Sri Aurobindo spoke of India as the spiritual leader of the world, a nation destined to light the path for humanity. But this destiny can only be realized by rejecting falsehood, corruption, and hatred. Let us remember that India's strength lies not in its divisions, but in its unity and commitment to justice.

Together, let us work to rebuild an India that reflects the ideals of Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo—a nation where truth triumphs over falsehood, harmony over division, and justice over corruption.
