by

The U.S. has a severe shortage of air traffic controllers. The FAA currently has 10800 certified controllers but a need for 14633.

Maybe the FAA should consider rethinking their age restriction and out dated equipment

If you only hire ten percent of the applicants , then you can't complain about lack of staff.

so if i heard this right there is a huge shortage of ATC but yet they make the job requirements damn near impossible to get through and with having a age cap on it also is a huge problem and then to top all that off the pay sucks ill stick to my warehouse and barely sweating job then this death trap of a job then if you have one mess up or easy mistake your a goner

They should hire back the staff that quit because they wouldn't take the forced COVID vaccine mandate. Interesting they didn't mention the number of controllers who left due to the jab requirement.

"not funded at the level that is needed" – They've already spent $14B and delivered very little new tech.

@AR-mc8mn April 3, 2025 - 2:03 pm

They need to get Blizzard, EA , Epic, Ubisoft, Nintendo or some other top development company to refactor the software and make in 3D with controllers wearing VR headsets like Oculus.

I have no problem with the stringent requirements to get the job but the starting pay needs to be bumped up about $20k on average.

At 7:45, The proper term is baccalaureate not "bachelorette" (who is a woman who's about to get married).

Otherwise, good piece covering ATC challenges.

I was interested until I seen there was an age limitation of 32 prior to graduation. I’m 32 now 😂

paper strips is hilarious to me
in a far more outdated russia we have e-strips on screens almost everywhere
and our best salary is 30k bucks (in moscow), but mostly around 12-15k

I can’t wait for DOGE and Elon to fix this. SIKE they are terrible

@Wawalsh1234 April 3, 2025 - 2:03 pm

You failed to mention the DEI stupidity that has resulted in a class action lawsuit with more than 1000 participants who met the requirements but were rejected due to the woke BS. Trump does have proof just research the class action and stop fake news.

As someone who washed on the radar side of the academy, some people really aren’t made for this, i simply was too slow and overthought alot even though i put the time in on my studies. Would I absolutely do it again given the chance? Yes! Ive aged out though, plus there’s other paths to the agency. That’s another thing, you’ll find that alot of the recently retired controllers who loved controlling would jump at the chance to control again, but it depends if the facility wants to take you or not, at least thats what i gathered from the retired controllers I know.

AI should do this job, end of story.

The FAA and ATC are obviously so unserious. Yall have planes falling out of the skies. Let's give these guys the respect they deserve in the form of higher pay and ramp up training the qualified individuals to do the job. If y'all were really serious, make airlines and plane mfg subsidize some of the costs to get you to those numbers bc these shortages affect their bottom lines as well.
